May The Force Be With You
The reason I haven't updated for ages is sadly quite mundane. I was sent on an impromtu Excel training course at the end of last week. Boring - yes but good for several reason. Firstly, it was a two day course which meant that I didn't have to go to work for two days and secondly, it both started later and finished earlier than work so that gave me extra time at home. Always good :D Oh, and I actually learnt something - proof of which can be seen in my certificate, which will go some way to making me super librarian soon. Oooh, speaking of which, I found a job at the library at Leeds Met. Perfect as that'll be where I'm studying in September. So I got rather excited and emailed them to ask if they'd work my studying in around the part-time hours, fully expecting them to say 'Yes! Of course we will for a fellow Leeds Met person', but no. They said that while they can try to be flexible they can not tell me what hours are going. Goodo. However, there are a few part-time positions going (and a full-time one actually, so it's a shame I can't go for that!) so I'll apply. I guess they're just waiting to see what they get. But if I kick ass at the interview like I did at Skipton library then they'll have no choice but to employ me in some form or another. Closing date is this Friday I think.
Also on a work theme, I had my six-month probation review last week. It was fine mostly, apart from when my boss told me that she knew about my plans to escape. Even if she thought I was going to do a PGCE (God forbid!) That threw me and made me feel like a total traitor to the College. But I haven't done anything wrong and I know that. She was fine about it as I knew she would be, I just felt like I'd been living a lie somehow. Trust no-one though because the only way she would have known is if someone had said something. I'm guessing Sarah. But it's fine really. After seeing the library job I got a bit excited and decided that I'd rather do that then stay here part-time but I really should see if I could do the part-time thing anyway. And I will...at some point. But I'm not the only one joining the mass exodus. Steph is leaving to do a part-time course in September and Kate left on Friday. Due to my Excel course I couldn't go out for her leaving lunch which was annoying, especially as on Wednesday me, James, Kate and Amy were having a nice little chat while on dinner in the staff room. It felt like a proper 'friends' thing too, just chatting and having a laugh. it's the first time I've felt like that in a long time. Typical that Kate is moving away now. However, thanks to the joy of Facebook I have added Kate and James so it's not all bad.
This weekend was spent not doing a lot. Which was good as I needed it really. I played on the PS2 a lot and did other random things. Me and James had a proper Star Wars fest though. We're watching them all from the start, and playing Lego Star Wars alongside it. So over the weekend we watched Episodes 1 and 2 and The Clone Wars animated series. 'The Phantom Menace' is always such a disappointment, although it isn't all bad I guess. There is no doubt that it's set in 'that' world, as it looks great. It's just all a little flat. Que-gon and Obi-wan are dull and it really doesn't help that the very beginning is utterly confusing. Watch it next to 'Attack of the Clones' and you can see how bad it really is. 2 knocks spots off it as it does everything (nearly) right. Yoda's light sabre fight is the icing on the cake really. The only thing that's awful about it is the horrendous love scenes. Ugh. I was pleasantly surprised by the animated series too which not only look amazing but managed to be very 'Star Wars' even though it's all 2-D. Aceness. Or 'Roger Roger' even.
Other things I did at the weekend included making a sticky toffee slice which is very nice. It's topped with walnuts too, just for the glamourous finish. No expense spared. Oh, and I lost a game of Trivia Pursuit. Never good.
I've been having a Britpop phase lately. First it was Dubstar, including B-sides and then it was re-discovering all of Pulp's stuff that I have. Mmm, so good. I've bought some new stuff lately too so I should really listen to that. I've only got as far as the 'Attack Decay Sustain Release' by Simian Mobile Disco but that's great so far. Must listen to the extra EP it comes with too. And I must book gig tickets soon, especially since I haven't been to a gig for ages. I really want to see Darren Hayes (even if I have to go to Liverpool for that one) and Rufus Wainwright which I think I can go to Harrogate for.
I'm tired today. I didn't sleep at all well last night. I want my weekend back!
