It's A Small World
Oct. 8th, 2007 12:24 pmI've just realised that I haven't updated for ages and so haven't mentioned my first day of Uni last Thursday. Well the day was fine really. I'm doing two modules this semester and so far the whole course seems suspiciously low maintainance. Apart from four essays I have to do this semester there doesn't appear to be any other work apart from reading notes. I'm sure we'll get some to do outside of classes, it's just without seminars things are a lot easier it seems. And the lectures don't seem too taxing. My two classes this semester are, basically, cataloguing and databases. Having worked in a library for a year a lot of it seems like common sense somehow. I'm sure I've spoken too soon, it's just that with my degree, everything was new, but with the MSc it seems that it's just building on what you already know. Hopefully this really is the case. We'll see. Plus, I have a four hour gap in my day with which to do work. I had a scout of the library during my gap, just to familiarise myself with it. It's a nice campus Leeds Met. However, I am yet to make a proper friend. We shall see if that develops, I mean, I am only in lectures for three hours, once a week.
Oh my God! I've just gone out of the room only to be told by a workmate, 'Nice blog'. Turns out that by using a work-related term in my LJ I've have made myself prime Goggle fodder. Fucking hell! Thankfully, it's not someone who's likely to throw things back in my face. I'm more mortified by the fact that my LJ is really boring. I really don't want to make my LJ friends only but the internet is too damn small sometimes. It's bad enough having work colleagues on Facebook. I'm really considering editing my profile down. I don't like the idea of people knowing so much about me without having a similar relationship with me face-to-face. The same goes for my LJ. I work with an unsaid clause whereby I leave this public on the understanding that it's not used to spy on me. With fellow LJ it's a two-way thing. I show you mine if you show me yours (ahem) which is great. And if you don't read it and you're a stranger then it's nice to be ableto read a post or two and decide whether to add me or not, I've made some great friends on here through that. On the other hand, if I know you in real life and you read it without my knowledge then that's basically spying and I won't tolerate it - it's usually done to find a mention of yourself isn't it? I've seen certain people's true colours through that method. So, to go friends only, or not go friends only, that is the question.
Anyway, back to my entry post-Googleproofing. I forgot to mention my successful cooking escapade last weekend. I made shepherds pie and sticky toffee pudding and it was a raving success. The sticky toffee pudding came with a sauce though that was too sweet even for me. But otherwise it was great. Shepherds pie is yummy isn't it?
Another thing I got to mention was me finishing Agatha Christie's 'Murder On The Orient Express' which I really enjoyed. I'd never read anything of hers before but it was a great short story. It came together really well too although the chances of the reader guessing the outcome was likely to be nil. Now I'm reading 'Tender Is The Night' for my book group next week. It always takes me ages to get into older fiction but I'm really enjoying it now.
What else? Well the weekend was pretty slow. We fed the ducks on the canal and got to see the family of swans that I've often seen there. The cygnets are nearly all white now. I did some cleaning, that was pretty much a highlight. Hmmm, there's probably other things of note but I can't really think of any.
I've been a bit lax on the updating front lately. I should really write more.
