I've been a little lax with the ol' LJ lately, mostly because I've been ill this week. I'd managed to avoid James' pox right up until half an hour before I was due to get up for work on Wednesday morning, when I woke up with a didgy stomach. Next thing I know, I'm worshipping at the alter of Armitage Shanks. I despise being sick. So I've had to take the rest of the week off.

Evidence for my illness can perhaps be traced back to my last LJ entry which was a little patchy. I forgot to mention that on Good Friday we went to the park and sat in the sun for a bit. There was a cold wind though so we ended up sitting there in a coat and sunglasses. Suave. And I also forgot to mention that a sacked person at work has been reinstated. I don't know if he's come back or not though as I've not been there this week. I must also reitrate how lovely Haworth was and its prettiness. Sarah got my postcard and seemed very pleased with it, asking me if I saw Mr Rochester, before saying that, of course, I was there with my very own Mr Rochester.

I'm meeting more of my Mr Rochester's family on Sunday as we're going to a Christening. It's not my place to go into it but I must mention the fact that James' Grandma only found out about us a few weeks ago and apparently asked James' Mum if we wear dresses! I do hope Sunday's going to go well, I'm prepared for twenty questions as it is :s

Pre-illness I got given a proper job at the theatre! I got to play with the lights and do the music and sound effects which was quite fun and makes things a little more interesting. Opening night is in one week I think. Scary.

I'm going to see The Tempest in Leeds tomorrow. Exciting stuff. I think I'll be 100% better tomorrow. About time too. I'm missing out on all the lovely weather. As much as I love having the day off, playing DS and reading, I do want to leave the house. I shall miss my mornings of  Jeremy Kyle, This Morning and Loose Women though. Oh wait, no I won't. I also won't miss seeing that hideous David Gest advery so much. As if I wasn't ill enough.

Well after the pancake horror of the other night me and James made up for it by buying some pre-made ones from Morrisons last night and had them! James had been to Manchester yesterday for work-type stuff and got back early-ish so decided to suggest the masterplan of that :D And they worked a treat. We had them with jam and lemon and sugar. Yum yum, so we got our pancakes in the end.

Last night was also successful in that we sorted out what me and James are going to do for our long weekend next weekend. It’s a little late for anything abroad which is a shame because there’s something really exciting about just jetting off at the last minute. But Scandanavia’s on hold although it looks more likely that we’ll try something like that for a big holiday in summer. This is wise as I’ve never flown and only been abroad once before. I just need something to kick start my confidence in the jetting off area so waiting is a good idea. Anyway, York is the plan! We’re staying there for two nights to check out the museums and stuff and then coming home, having a day of doing nothing and then going to Haworth (maybe) on the other day. Bronte country :D So yay! It’s been awhile since I had anything exciting planned and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve still got 2 ½ days holiday to have before March ends so I’ll probably go back to Crewe for that. Plus I’m going to see The Vortex on the 10th March so hurray for exciting things! Steph/Megan – this limits the time I’ll have to come to Newcastle but I’ll let you know.

In other news, this weekend we’re off to see The Science of Sleep in Manchester. Fun stuff. We’re trying to figure out what else to do while we’re there because we’ve been there recently and do a lot so if anyone has any ideas then let me know.

In a bid to start to make friends around Skipton we went online the other night. This just descended into laughter at the grim people we found so if anyone can suggest ways in which to meet like-minded people then, again, let me know.

In rather more worrying news, although I’m over my illness now, it’s given me one final kick before dying, it’s done something to my eyes! Well, one anyway. Yesterday my right eye was really bloodshot. I put it down to not having enough sleep but it got worse during the day and started to ache. I wondered if it was conjunctivitis and remembered that when our dog had it we were told to wipe his eyes with used tea bags (you can see where this is going right?). Well last night, much to James’ amusement I put a teabag over my eye! It was aching so much I had to do something and the coolness really helped. Anyway, it’s better this morning! Still red but it doesn’t hurt at all. Hurrah for Old Wives’ type cures! There’s a proper pox in our office though. There’s me with my body that’s just fallen apart in the last six months (crazy eyes, flu, skin infection), Steph’s off who has a worse case of flu than me and David who has chicken pox. Run for the hills! It's not all bad though. Jo's leaving soon so we're all going out for lunch on Tuesday which'll be really good as I've not really had chance to talk much to my team.

Well, you’ll be glad to know that I’m better. I was back at work yesterday even though I wasn’t feeling 100%. That’s dedication for you! Or maybe that what Michel Gondry does for you, he’s a magical cure, because I did end up watching his DVD for a good while. Today I am back to my normal self and I’m quite glad that I get a shorter working week! I’m also having a four day week next week too on account of me needing to use my leave up. James has got the long weekend off too and we’re wanting to go away somewhere, even somewhere abroad maybe but we might have left it a little too late. I’m still pushing for Scandanavia…

Yesterday me and James tried making pancakes. I don’t understand why they failed so miserably. Even one we tried just kept sticking to the pan, and we tried different ones. I used to be really good at them. Anyway, we gave up and had a takeaway, I don’t think it put either of us in a very good mood. Next the boycott begins. I shouldn’t even be celebrating it, what with being an atheist and all but I’m willing to a hypocrite for food (see also, Xmas, Easter etc).

| read magazine supplements while I was off too and felt very weird whilst I watched them because they made me react in ways in which I didn’t think I could. The Observer Music Monthly had an article about women artists making it in America. It did have a humourous quality to, desperately trying to show that the artists mentioned were both talented *and* interesting. One quote said that that Natasha Bedingfield had a ‘BA in Psychology, so she can write clever lyrics’ or something to that effect which was laughably scraping the barrel. Oh, and it confirmed (not that it needed confirming) that Joss Stone is a bit of an arse, and a mad one at that. Now what did surprise me was how much I liked KT Tunstall and her gutsy feminism vibe. I know I once said that she uses initials in her name to make up for her lack of personality and I do still think it’s silly but I liked her. I fear me.

I also watched the Culture Show and delighted in Regina Spektor (she’s so cute although ever since Lucy referred to her as Vagina Inspektor I can’t think about anything else! :s) and reports on why Gilbert and George are shit (literally!) and more Michel Gondry. I want to see the Science of Sleep but the only places in Yorkshire that are showing it are York and Sheffield! So a trip to York might be on the cards this week. Anyone want to come?!

I forgot to mention about the Brits last week! Well not surprisingly it was pretty dull although some bits saved it. Is it wrong that I found Russel Brand so funny after all the slagging off I've done? I don't know how he got away with half of it. Worryingly, he seems to have the same kind of sociological commentary as me. I fear me. Anyway, rough Brits comments now:

  • Oasis are properly shit live aren' t they?!
  • Bands really have nothing to say anymore. Since when do bands thank their record companys?!
  • Take That know how to accept an award, weird that.
  • Amy Winehouse is actually brilliant
  • Where was the variety of live acts? That's enough guitars now, a bit of Girls Aloud wouldn't have gone amiss.
  • The sets were really good

That's about all I can be bothered to mention. Must try harder though, really. I must say that I was doing other stuff while I was watching it, thankfully. I'm an awful person to watch something like that with though, I just slag everything off all the way through it.

In other news, we have a leak in the house! Due to someone not putting the bath in correctly, water's been gathering above the kitchen sinc we moved in and it started dripping through. Thankfully, Glen the handyman has sorted it, even though he put a hole in the ceiling to get the water out :s

Illness watch: I'm feeling much better. I'm off work today but I hope I'm back tomorrow. It's been a grim weekend.

Despite the illness though I did some cooking with James help. I've made panna cotta to eat today and we did a tomato, onion and egg bake too. Yum yum.

I rang Emma last night and I'm glad I did. It's been too long and we had a good laugh catching up on everything. I can't believe she's moving back home to do a two year masters, hardcore! And she's an auntie now! It's all very strange but I do miss her and Chris. The funniest thing she said was that they went to a fancy dress dressed as chavs and on the bus home this 15 year old chav girl started on Chris! Fun times!
