Keep It Gay

Bah, this weekend was meant to be all about having a bit of a break but that's really not happened. The week's just been full of being busy at work and then rehearsals in the evening. I'm currently trying to fill 15 files full of various documents which I'm having to chase down from different people. I doesn't sound like a big job but it's turning out to be huge. That's just the 'quality' side of me job. On the 'learning and teaching' side I've been trying to organise a student rep meeting which involves a hell of a lot of photocopying. Sigh, the life of an admin officer is hard sometimes. I really must get my arse into gear and apply for this library masters. New guy's turning out to be very nice though. I went for lunch with him, and two other girls, Amy and Kate who I got talking to the other day in the staff room. Kate was moaning about work and I had to say something because she was saying exactly what I've been thinking lately and it made me feel like at least I'm not the only one. Kate's only been there seven months and she wants to move on, which is exactly how I feel. It's nice to be hanging out with young people finally!
The same goes for theatre actually. Tom is helping with lights and sound with me so we've been talking during rehearsals during the long scenes where we don't have much to do. He does relief work for North Yorkshire libraries and helps out at the Skipton one. It turns out that he knows the person who got the job I applied for! Typical. I didn't get any more information, but it shows that there will be opportunites for doing library work outside of my course. I must look up those temp agenices that Andrea let me know about to to see if there's anything about round here. I've been talking to Danielle lots too, because she's thinking about going back to study too. As is Tom actually. He's abandoning us in September so I might be solely responsible for lights and sound then :s It's funny how many different types people of people theatre attracts. My background is in English so I just have a general interest in the plays themselves. Danielle's background's in performance so she's into the acting while Tom has a science background so he's in the technical side of things. It's interesting. They're theatening to get me on-stage at some point though, Shirley says I'm at a disadvantage because they're short of young people. The fear.
As for rehearsals, well I'm just about there with my stuff. There are horrible bits where Tom's doing other props so I have to do music, lights and then the curtain to which I'm trying not to think about! Horrid. Something will go wrong today. During the dress rehearsal, the last scene Beryl just couldn't get it and ran off stage and burst into tears. Not good. We've already got on guy who dropped out so Phil's on-stage with a script. :s Once the first night is over with though it'll be fine. There's one woman who insists on getting on my tits though, she's a fatty too. She's just really bossy and acts like she owns the place even though she's only prompting. Grrr. I'm not the only one who has issues though.
Overall though, it's just nice to see something come together and be a part of it all. It feels really good :) Believe it or not that's why I'm (say it quietly) I'm enjoying work at the moment too.
Saturday was lots of fun. Me and James headed to Manchester, where we met my Mum and went to see The Producers, with Peter Kay in it at the Place Theatre. We had quiet cheap seats which I don't mind because being high up, you get to appreciate the whole set, which you just can't do from lower down. However, these seats were *really* steep. I didn't dare stand up for fear of falling to my death. I think that put my Mum off a little bit. The whole thing was hilarious though. It was sooo good. I was in hysterics at several bits. The 'Spingtime For Hitler' scene was the most amazing thing ever! It had it all, a lady with a giant pretzel on her head, and an utterly ridiculous song which finished with two glamourous women dressed as tanks coming on to the stage. Simply amazing. It wasn't just funny though. It was true to the film and there was a lot of individual choreography within the main dances which was really clever. Hehe, I've just remembered the dance with the zimmerframes, and the shiny swastikka. Is it wrong that I found the dancing swastikka so funny? Me and James loved it, but my Mum didn't seem as into it as we did. I can't win can I? James didn't like 'The Vortex' while my Mum did and it's other way round with this. I'm not going with the pair of them again! I must also mention how good Pizza Hut were as, because I hadn't eaten my dessert before we had to head off for the play they let me pick it up afterwards!
Today we had a mooch round town and went food shopping before I had to go to rehearsal. And I've had a well earned night off tonight. God I need it. I'm looking forward to my birthday just so I can have a rest! This weekend's been good though. We've been catching up on Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives too, oh and we're on to the second season of The West Wing which I'm thoroughly enjoying. Now I'm going to finish the evening buy building rollercoasters.
Oh, it's my sister's birthday too today. She's 13 which is slightly strange actually but that's what you get with a ten year age gap! I need to send her a present at some point soon!
