Le Shape of Things To Come

So, plan MSc rolls into action. I finally plucked up the courage to talk to my new line manager (as of today. I thought I'd break him in gently) and he was great about it. He basically said exactly the same as me and everyone else who gave me advice. He said that I must think about me firstmost and that I should definitely do the course and that work would do as much to support me as possible, he talked to Liz and Eleanor who said that me having a half day or two off would be fine and he talked to Personel who did some calculations and said that me losing a day's pay now I've had a pay rise wouldn't actually make much difference to me, like I'd thought. however, the Met aren't being forthcoming with info about timetables and although it's highly unlikely that I'll need two full days off, if I did then I couldn't go pat-time. So I have two options. Have time off for my course and make it up during the week, or go part-time and four days a week. Either of these would be great for me and I'm quite pleased that I have this offer on the table. David was under no illusion that I'd stay forever as he said that, with my MSc I'd need to look for work that was library-related but at least I could stay here while I did look for something else which was very good of him. So hooray for that. I just need to sort it out properly really now.
In other news, as above probably shows, I have a new boss today and a new job title. I am now longer Administrative Officer (Learning, Teaching and Quality), I am now just Quality and Standards Officer. So if you need you quality and standards buffing up you know where to go! Oh, and I'm now on more money. Hoorah! With me probably staying where I am for now I've been able to get quite excited about the possibilities for next year. I've been doing more work on the Virtual Learning Environment (mucho library experience here) as well arranging next years Student Rep meetings. It's all good really :)
In other news, we finally booked our holiday! And I think we've done fairly well really. We're going to Paris with two days at Disneyland, and two in Paris, with a trip to the Sea-Life centre some time too. James was bouncing off the walls all last night after we booked it and he's vowed to buy a pair of Mickey Mouse ears at the start of the holiday and not take them off all the time we're there. I fear him. It's also quite odd as it'll be the first time I've ever been on a plane. Once we've done it though, I hope that it'll open up more travelling for us, even if we do it on the cheap. I'm desperate to do more! Pleasingly I have accomodation, plane tickets and a two-day ticket to Disneyland for £300 which I think is quite good. So yes, I'm looking forward to it, even though it hasn't really sunk in yet!
Not a lot else has been going on really. I'm going to make some banana bread tonight I think, and then play some board games with James.
Also, have you noticed that no Rihanna's 'Umbrella' isn't number 1, we have sunshine! There's something funny going on here...
